DAY 37 - SUNDAY, 18 AUGUST 2013 RHODES, GREECE

Had a really great day in Rhodes – once the site of the Colossus of Rhodes, a statue built around the 3rd century B.C. that was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

We had a fantastic view from the ship of the medieval Old Town, which is encased within a massive stone wall, and it was just right on our doorstep.  But the first thing we did was hop on a local bus and have a trip around the streets and the lovely beaches.  Then it was time to enter the Old Town and guess what??....  a mass of old cobblestone streets, totally choccas with shops, cafés, etc.!!  The quality of the goods here is excellent and it was so difficult not to go crazy and buy everything in sight.  So as a distraction, we were happy to spend a good half an hour or so talking to our kids on the free wifi (which is pretty common now in most of the cafés), whilst we sipped our morning iced coffees.

Meandering around the narrow streets and the wafting of leather was driving me crazy, so the next distraction, was visiting the Grand Masters Palace which was built by the Knights of St. John, and it was very grand!!   Then with tummies telling us it's time, we found a delightful leafy restaurant to rest and cool off, and of course indulge in more Greek Salad, even succumbed to a glass of wine.

Well how I returned 'home' without a single purchase, is beyond me but I did it and I keep telling myself that the best is yet to come.

What a delightful port and we spent sailaway on our balcony - it was the most amazing view of this real gem of a port.
