Ahhh Napoli….. sweet memories of our last trip in 2011 when we visited the Amalfi Coast in the morning and Pompeii in the afternoon – what a day that was!!!! Now, as it's right in the middle of the holiday season in Europe, and with numerous cruise ships in port, we decided to keep clear of the crowds and explore the guts of Naples, which is just what we did….
We walked and walked and walked until our feet ached – well mainly because of the cobblestone streets, and it was also very hot but we had a great look around. Not the prettiest of ports to wander, but we eventually found the main street and lots and lots of little shops – took quite a while but we did find a great little al fresco coffee spot – devoured some pastries - we thought with a tad of chocolate but discovered what must have been 2 heaped tablespoons inside, yummo!!!! Just good to wander amongst this amazing conglomirisation? of tall residential old world buildings, with the narrowest of streets, bipping and lots of loud talking, washing hanging from all floors, people everywhere – and trying to be invisible!!!!
Apart from all the shops and the locals busily going about their daily life, there were lots of vegetable stalls, fish mongers and variety stalls where I was so very happy to find a big clock with hands that I could see during the night in the cabin (with the amount of time changes during this cruise, I found it difficult to know what hour it actually was – now I have no excuse!!!).
