DAY 29 - SATURDAY, 10 AUGUST 2013 CRETE PART 2

Our journey continued through the countryside and Lefteris kept jumping out of the cab to pick various herbs growing in the wild on the side of the road to savour the aromas….

Our next stop was another small roadside stall – what an amazing stop that was – we ate huge chunks of watermelon, washed down with a small cup of a type of home brew ouzo, which came out of a 2lt. plastic bottle  All the family seemed to be huddled into this tin shed, from grandpa to grandson!!

We thought that was our last stop being desser, and imagined we were heading 'home', but no, yet another stop at a café in the middle of nowhere – this time more cheese, bread and olives, another glass of vino, then yogurt laced with honey!!!!   We now think it is time to end this feast!!

After stopping by the very pretty St. Georges Monastery, we were dropped off at the prettiest viewing spot of the port – the Bottomless Lake, where we thanked our friendly hosts and walked back to the ship along the seaside cafes, bars and souvenir shops.

Wow!! – What a magical mystery tour of gastronomic proportions – a deagastation of local fare and village life – a day to remember!!

More photos of our day in Crete.
