DAY 15 - SATURDAY, 27 JULY 2013 PHUKET

We docked at the Phuket Wharf this morning and as we didn't have a plan, we were very fortunate to hitch a ride in a taxi with two very jovial couples for a sightseeing tour around Phuket.  We started by visiting the obligatory cashew and honey shops, which were delightful and there was a wonderful array of packaged goodies, but the last thing we needed to buy was food.  We then drove up to the Big Buddha perched on the highest point of the island - it was amazing, only around 3 years so far in the making, but a very impressive site, both from the distance looking towards it and also from the Big Buddha itself, looking all over Phuket.  The base of it was surrounded by beautiful golden statues and then within the Buddhist Temple the monks were praying and there were a plethora of golden statues on display and souvenirs to buy.

On the way back down the hill we watched our friends begin their trek on the elephant ride - good timing as we had a laugh and took some good pics. of those gorgeous creatures - and the elephants are pretty special too!!  Next was a stop at the jewellery emporium and I really wasn't interested in even going in BUT once inside, madam was overjoyed to make a small purchase!

We continued into Phuket town itself, had a quick look around and a bite to eat before heading back with our taxi mates and strolling the markets on the port dock – boy was it hot though!!!!

A pretty sailaway on a lovely evening and then time to feed and water ourselves again.
