DAY 33 - WED., 14 AUGUST 2013 CIVITAVECCHIA

We enjoyed our day in Civitavecchia (which is the port for Rome) and wandered around the streets.   It's nice and clean and the residential apartment blocks, above the shops, are colourful with pretty balconies laden with potted colour.

We also strolled around the beach, next to the port area, but as it was still early morning, there weren't many people around.  However, we did bump into Paula & Ray, who posed for us in front of a great statue of a wartime sailor with his girlfriend 'nurse'…. and had an iced coffee with them.  The beach was very pretty, but I can't get my head all those pebbles – how lucky are we with our beautiful sandy beaches at home.

We took some shopping back to the ship and then went back early afternoon, only to find it was desolate, there was barely a soul to be seen and all the shops were closed – having their siesta of course.

Well, there was one shop that wasn't closed and it was a clothes shop, so in we go.  I actually found a really nice pair of orange sandals, which were reduced to E5!!, so decided to buy them.  Easier said than done - when the barcode didn't check out, they wouldn't sell them to me….. couldn't believe our ears, and they were not nice about it either!!!

As we were rather peckish and it was around 3pm, we decided to have a pizza – so sat down at a nice café, only to be told they had stopped making pizzas for the afternoon….  What!!!   A short stroll to the next café and we enjoyed a fabulous pizza, with a beer and wine.

Ended our day with a great sailaway………
