It's back to Naples today and we decided to hop on a 'fast' ferry as the terminal was right beside where we have docked, it's nice and easy for us- so off we go to the Isle of Capri.
It's another lovely sunny day and the journey only took around 45 minutes. Wow, what an awesome sight was the rugged structure of the island – it just seems to rise out of the sea and is very, very tall….
As we got off the ferry there were lots of little tourist boats bobbing around waiting to take people to the Blue Grotto and around the Island, and there were many holiday makers, taxis and buses. After a quick stroll along the foreshore, we bought a map to find our way around and to work out what to see and do, whilst having another 'different' iced coffee – this time it's the best we've tasted, yummo!!
We then took the Fernicular up to the main township of Capri which was buzzing – people with cameras all frantically taking zillions of photos of the magnificent views from high on this hilltop – it was just so pretty looking over the bluest of blue waters and boats of all sizes.
We headed off through the very narrow streets and passageways soaking up all the character of Capri with oodles of colourful and intriguing doorways to little hotels, apartments, houses and big hotels. It was very quaint and we were also climbing all the while, and it was very hot…… we were heading for the Natural Arch and finally got to the other side of the island and there she was!!! Another little marvel of nature and well worth the walk, and we were also almost on our own, apart from a group of 6 happy Americans that we kept bumping into.
We took a different route back which was just as pretty and this time downhill through the tiny streets and tiny shops – beautiful shops I might add – wish I was a zillionaire!!!! We met up with Jo, Garry, Ros & Arnold in their swish red taxi and then it was time for lunch and we were lucky to get a table 'with a view' next to a very chatty mother and daughter from Stockholm, Sweden, who told us their life story. We ate Pizza and Caprise Salad, and somehow paid for their expensive coffees, but it was all good fun and good company.
We returned to the shore via the Fernicular and walked over to the tiny pebbled beach which was full of people and totally what you would imagine a beach to be in the Mediterranean. We are so very lucky to have beautiful sandy beaches at home as you literally need reef shoes to be able to walk without looking like a zombie on the pebbles here…… Colin had a quick dip and I wet my ankles and then it was time to grab a Gelato and hop on the return ferry.
So happy we spent the day in Capri – you are very, very beautiful!!
