We set off on another tour with Joanne, Garry, Ros, Arnold, Sharon, David and our guide, Graham (who came from Guildford, England – Colin lived there in his younger years).
Graham drove us first to the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana – which was small and easy to walk around. It was early so very quiet around the main street and we walked down to the market place and had a quick look. After a really good coffee we headed for Lake Bled and the alpine slopes and villages (we were not dressed appropriately today as it was rather chilly – Garry and Arnold having to buy some warmer tops), about an hours drive through the very pretty countryside.
We got off the bus at the base of Bled Castle and had no idea of the spectacle that we were about to witness. After climbing a rather steep cobblestone path we arrived at the courtyard of the Castle itself – WOW!!! The views of Lake Bled were totally brilliant – the water being the most incredible turquoise blue (caused by the lime in the soil and recent rains) and will be one of the picture perfect highlights of our trip – I'm sure the photos won't do it justice.
We then went into the little town of Bled – this time looking up at the Castle. We had a wander and lunch AND just had to try their 'Kremna Regina' – home of the Bled Cream Cake – light and fluffy!!! Then it was time to return to Koper, where we had time to stroll through 'their' old walled port – again great little buildings with heaps of character, and then along the seaside with beautiful yachts, boating and little beaches.
A very pretty sailaway, followed by yet another delightful dinner, then just what we needed – chocolates!! – Ray's son and family met Paula & Ray in Venice as they were also holidaying there and presented them with the most enormous box of scrumptious English chockies!!
Photos: All of our delightful day in Slovenia.
