DAY 65 - SUNDAY, 15 SEPTEMBER, 2013 – AQABA, JORDAN

Hanging over the balcony this morning we watched the hoards of people getting into 28 coaches on their way to Petra or Wadi Rum.  We are so happy that we have done Petra before – it is brilliant, but a huge day – long bus trip and a few hours walking in the heat, all in all around 12 hours!!

Aqaba is just a short trip from the port and we could see the many hotels and resorts in the distance.  Also from our balcony, right in front of us, were huge baron hills, camel coloured and quite eerie looking, with a ribbon of road wrapping around them.

We caught the shuttle bus into Aqaba as it seemed like a nice town from what we saw, from the bus last time, BUT it didn't take long to realize that it wasn't quite what we expected.  Many of the shops were closed and those that were open were not that interesting.  We did have our morning coffee at the Ali Baba Café and phoned the family, whilst being pestered by children begging for money – they certainly didn't look like they needed it.

We took a different route back to the ship and it was much more interesting – the beaches looked quite pretty with their colourful umbrellas.  Back on board for lunch and enjoyed the afternoon activities with an evening sailaway.

We now have 4 sea days before we reach Salalah, Oman…..  we love sea days!!!
